Who draws thier own patterns?
« on: December 31, 2008, 03:44:26 PM »
With my job I spend 100+ nights a year in motels. To kill time I surf the photo sites like Pbase.com, Flickr.com, and others. I saw alot of pics I though would make good poses for decoys. So I started trying to make some patters. Here are some shovelers I have been working on.

I plan on doing some in foam and some in wood if ever warms up in the shop.

There?s nothing like watching cupped wings drop into a spread of decoys you made yourself.

nice looking patterns.  I really like the last feeding profile.

I draw mine but I normally do not keep them.  I know I should spend more time on the pattern part but I normally work from 1 or 2 patterns or just take a photo I like into the shop and work it out on the foam block.  Doing it that way gets me in trouble sometimes but foam is cheap.  If I'm doing a cork or wood decoy, I spend more time on the pattern.
I'm not a great carver but I play one on the internet.  :)
