Go down to the Activities section and you'll see the photo contest and traveling decoy threads. Plenty of pics.

Tom your decoys are impressive as well as harvested birds.  Nice pics!

Thanks, Scott==The first shot is a bunch of speckled teal in the dekes, second is another morning--two of us-Dekes in the row closest to the masked fella.

T Rowe, now I see what you were talking about when you stated that the ice was playing hell with your flocked birds. Was that over one outing, or are you allowed to leave birds out over night in NY State?

I tried the Damar varnish/mineral spirits mix on some bird's heads per Michael Braun's suggested ratio and method-impressive results! It is low sheen and a little like spar varnish thinned.

p.s. those can't be real scaup, they don't have "bright" blue bills...

RL, that ice on the decoys was from one hunt.  Its not legal to leave decoys out over night where I hunt.  As a matter of fact that was a  bit on the low end of the ice build up we had to deal with this year.   I have an idea I'm going to try to see if I can combat it.  It gets real old carting 100+ decoys into the house after every hunt to thaw them out.  I'll let you know if it works

Good catch on the scaup bills.    That day the high temp was 8 and the wind was ripping.  For some reason the wind and cold temp turned the edges of the bills whitish (on the dead birds).  I think it may have been frost bite or something.   Thats my guess anyway ;D

For the heck of it, try a light spray of pam, or some other cooking oil in an aerosol. Might keep the ice off--OR johnson's paste wax, thinly applied to areas that are going to build up doilies. Will be matte if not buffed.
