Hi folks,

As a greenhorn to this particular art form, I just wanted to take a brief moment and say hello.  8)

I'm from Northern Utah, part time Taxidermist (mostly waterfowl) , and a full time machinery maintenance manager with a degree in Machining.

welcome to the site. with doing taxidermy you will probably have a good mindset on the anatomy of the birds which will help in carving as well as good references.

Thank you all very much for the warm welcome... I figure with good salt-of-the-earth type folks like Mr. James (bowfishing buddy) in among us/you all, this site is a wonderful find for me to have stumbled upon.

Initially i thought id join this forum to create a flock of my own blocks, but with the different "avenues" (IE, decorative, competition, working, making decoys et al) this could get very intere$ting really quick!  ;D

Now i just need to find the space to start making a few chips, oh and not to mention finding the TIME to do it between pulling full time hours maintaining machinery, part time hours fulfilling taxidermy projects, family time, honeydo's, hunting stuff,  etc ... it will be a challenge but I'm really looking forward to testing my art & craftsmenship skills with this.

Your gonna love it here, Gleez. GREAT buncha folks ( even 'Ol Speer, although I must warn ya about him...he's a bit of a "Greeny"so don't be mislead by his avatar..."Carp'n". He actually catches and RELEASES them. Guy is off his rocker, but he does make a nice decoy.)  ;)
