Texas rig clear line question
« on: January 01, 2014, 11:31:38 PM »
Seeing how I been out of duck hunting for over 10 years much has changed. Im interested in the rigs. A few people I talk to say dont use the clear mono line because it breaks to much in cold weather. I have a few concerns about clear mono myself. The main concern I have it that where I hunt here in Wisconsin the water is very clear in the lake and big bays (which is where I will be doing all my hunting next year) and I am afraid that the ducks will see the white line from the deke to the weight. Should this be a concern for me? I would like some opinions before I order the 5 doz pack from Doctari long lines. Thanks for the opinions in advance.

A friend of mine swears by weed eater line from Ace Hardware, says it handles better than the mono.  Myself, I already bought a big spool of the 400# mono so that's what I use.  Is it invisible?  No... but I think it's less visible than black or green PVC or rope.

I hate wrapping decoy cord so much I even Texas rig my hand carved blocks, I do store them in a slot bag though, just don't spend any time wrapping line.

Might take a look at SNL Corp.  Seems cheaper.  I also purchased their swivels, make it nice if you want to swap out a decoy, just un-snap.
