My name is Jeremy Mynear; I am 32 years old and currently live in Emmett, Idaho. I was born and raised in N. California and grew up in Greenville, Ca where I first learned to carve at my high school. I grew up in a small town in Indian Valley, Plumas County where I hunted, fished, camped and hiked as much as possible. Growing up in the outdoors allowed me to enjoy nature and by the age of about 9, I got my first taste of waterfowl hunting and have been hooked since. I grew up hunting local lakes, ponds, and creeks in the area for waterfowl. I was fortunate to have a high school teacher who carved and he started an art carving class my last 2 yrs of high school. I took the class for those 2 years and learned the basics of carving and painting. After high school, I didn’t carve much until 2003 when I started back up again. I carved a few wooden birds and then started carving burlapped foam gunning decoys and have been making them since.
While living in Oregon for 10 yrs, I spent most of my time in the great outdoors hunting and fishing. Waterfowl hunting in the Willamette Valley at places such as the Willamette River, Sauvies Island, Summer Lake, Klamath Falls, and many other areas allowed me to see a diverse amount of species. Oregon is the wintering haven for 7 sub-species or Canada goose, one of which is a protected species, the Dusky Canada Goose. I worked for Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife in the Oregon Permit Zone hunt area where I checked hunter’s permits, determined species, and took morphological measurements of the different species. I also graduated from Oregon State University in 2008, where I studied Fisheries and Wildlife Science with emphasis on Avian and Wetlands Ecology. Going to OSU allowed me to work on many internships and research studies in the valley involving waterfowl, it was a great experience.
I started Jeremy Mynear Decoys around 2005, and my goal was to offer a custom decoy for a low price to those who wanted something different. Plastic duck decoys are for the most part the same, until here recently where companies have started making vast improvements. However, there is still something special to me about hunting over something that is completely hand-made. I use different head positions and can customize your spread as you wish. My decoys are made for hunting, and I hunt with them myself. They are all handmade, alot of time and effort is put into each decoy. My decoys are made to last a lifetime with proper care. I recommend using plastic bags on each, and slotted bags, similar to what you would do with any custom decoy. All I can say is that you will like these decoys!!! If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to get in touch with me. Thanks and have a great one!!
